Jean F. Calzone

Jean Frances (Salter) Calzone passed away peacefully on July 21, 2018, at Notre Dame Health and Rehabilitation Center in Norwalk. She was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Michael John Calzone on March 8, 2018.

Born in Norwalk, daughter of the late Frances Frank and Lewis Salter and sister of the late Lewis Salter and Robert Salter, resided in Wilton for 59 years. She graduated from Norwalk High School in 1946, was married in 1948. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Wilton for many years. Jean worked at Middlebrook School in Wilton for 20 years until her retirement as a library assistant. She was a volunteer at Norwalk Hospital Gift Shop for 25 years and received a silver bowl in recognition of her dedication and service. She will be dearly missed by her co-workers there. Jean had many treasured life-long friends and neighbors and was fondly known as “Jeannie”.

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother. She leaves two daughters, Denise (Calzone) Scheuy, and her husband Edward, Lynn (Calzone) Selke, and her husband William, who treasure her memories. Also survived by Joyce Calzone and dear cousin Louise Taylor. She was known as “Grammy” to her six grandchildren: Greg Scheuy, Matthew Scheuy and his wife Heather, Justin Garfunkel and his wife Missi, Steven Garfunkel and his fiancé Mandy, Jenna Calzone and Jason Calzone. Also survived by in-laws Grace (Calzone) Smith and Rocco Calzone, and many nieces and nephews.

Jean was an avid reader, world traveler and enjoyed theater, movies, playing cards, animals and trips to the casino. She was most happy sharing time with family and friends. She will always be loved and cherished by all who knew her and missed beyond words. She leaves treasured memories to all who knew her.

A memorial mass will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, July 28, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Avenue, Norwalk. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, Jean requested that memorial donations be sent to: Notre Dame Health and Rehabilitation Center, 76 West Rocks Road, Norwalk, CT 06851 in recognition of their loving and compassionate care. The family extends sincere thanks to all of her wonderful caregivers at Notre Dame who are a blessing to all of us.
