Marta Hernandez Menendez
Marta Menendez, M.D. passed away quietly on Wednesday July 25, 2018 at her home in Lenox, Massachusetts a few days before her 94th birthday. Marta is survived by her three daughters: Marta M. Crawford, San Antonio, TX, Josefina M. Stecker, Norwalk, CT and Teresa M. Menendez, M.D. Lenox, MA along with two son-in-laws Ronny Crawford and J. Howard Stecker, six grandchildren Ronny Crawford, Carl Crawford, Julie Lipscomb, Brian Stecker, Greg Stecker and Peter Stecker and seven great-granddaughters.
Marta was born in Camaguey, Cuba in 1924 and attended medical school in Havana where she met her future husband Jose F. Menendez. They married in 1950 after they both graduated from medical school and lived in Havana where their 3 daughters were born. In 1961, the family left Cuba and lived in Madrid, Spain for two years until moving to the US to Terrell, Texas where they raised their young family. In the early 1970’s, Marta finished her residency in Psychiatry at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, TX and began practicing medicine as a staff psychiatrist at the Terrell State Hospital where she worked until her retirement at age 74 in 1997. Since then, she has been living with her daughter Teresa in Dallas, TX and then moved with Teresa to Lenox, MA in 2013.
Funeral arrangements are being handled through Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT. A quite viewing time and wake will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, July 29th from 2 to 4pm. A Mass will be held at 11 am on Monday, July 30th at St. Jerome Catholic Church at 23 Half Mile Road, Norwalk, CT. Marta will be buried with a graveside service at Oakland Cemetery, Terrell, TX at 1pm on Saturday, August 4th. The family suggests gifts In lieu of flowers can be made to the St. Jerome Catholic Church.
