Fern S. LeMay, age 90, of Norwalk, died peacefully on December 9, 2016 with her daughter and son-in-law at her side in Granite Falls, North Carolina. She was the wife of the late Oscar A. LeMay. Fern grew up in Stamford, CT and was the daughter of Raymond and Hazel Smith originally from Prince Edward Island, Canada.
Fern enjoyed working for both Nestle and Hiram Walker in the 1940s as an Executive Secretary. After marrying her high school sweetheart, Oscar, in 1948, they settled in Norwalk, CT. She later became a licensed insurance agent and worked alongside her husband at LeMay Agency. They were able to enjoy winters together in Venice, Florida. Fern had always loved sitting in the sun and after her lifetime sweetheart passed away in 1999, she continued to be a snowbird until she was 89 years old. She loved to sing, play bridge and had a voice that carried causing her laughter to often be contagious. Fern had many lifelong friends and relatives that enjoyed her company. She loved spending time with her grandson.
She is survived by her son Doug LeMay and his wife Lori, and her grandson, Christopher all of Norwalk. She is also survived by her daughter, Barb and her husband Ray Benasutti of Granite Falls, NC and her sister, Ilene Cody (Smith) and husband Hal of San Ramon, CA.
Calling hours will be on Monday, December 19, 2016, at the Collins Funeral Home in Norwalk from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. followed by a church service at 1 p.m. at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Stamford. Due to this type of research, advances were made in medicine that enabled her to keep her sight.
