Beverly J. Hornick-LaJoie, age 74, passed away at her home in Norwalk, surrounded by her family on Sunday, August 26th, 2018. She was born February 12, 1944 in Stamford, Connecticut to Anthony and Ann Marie (Jacobelli) Tiani. Beverly attended Center School, Saxe Middle School and New Canaan High School, where she met and fell in love with her first husband, Art. They were married for 34 years, until his death in 1994. She went on to graduate from Norwalk Hospital School of Nursing. She was a dedicated, caring nurse and spent the last 5 years of her 30 year career as a Hospice Nurse in Stuart, Florida.
Beverly loved spending time with her family; she enjoyed traveling, playing the piano, sewing, gardening, baking, attending NASCAR racing events and decorating her home that she shared with her husband, Don LaJoie, whom she married in 2013 after being widowed for 19 years. She was an avid animal lover and provided a loving home to many adopted shelter dogs throughout her years.
Left to honor Bev and remember her love are Bev’s husband Donald LaJoie, her three children, Scott (Peggy) Hornick, Mia Hornick Marshall and Paige (Tom) Fraser; Don’s three children Randy (Lisa) LaJoie, Missy (Jim) Murphy and Linda (Tim) Lay. She leaves behind many grandchildren who loved her dearly; Eric, Andrew, Allison, Matthew, Emily, David, Brandon, Cameron, Kelsey, Shannon, Corey, Casey, Erin, Ryan, Megan and Kayla.
Bev was preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Art Hornick.
Family, friends and others whose lives Beverly touched are invited to Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave, Norwalk, Tuesday August 28th, from 4pm to 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Avenue, Norwalk, Wednesday, August 29th, at 12pm. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Main Street, New Canaan.
The Hornick and LaJoie families would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at the Smilow Cancer Center, Yale New Haven Hospital for all their compassion and loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Yale School of Medicine with Petrylak Research Educational Fund noted.
