Robert M. White, Sr. “Pop Pop”

Robert Michael White, Sr., 95, of Norwalk, CT went to heaven on May 2, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving wife Dora and family after a brief illness. Born in Westport, CT on July 22, 1920, he was the son of Nora Sullivan White of Cherichevenne, Ireland and James Edwin White, a Native American Indian of Bristol RI.

Raised in Westport, he was a caddy at Birchwood Country Club and worked at Remington Arms until he served in the U.S. Army during WWII, 150th Combat Engineers under General Patton in Normandy, Northern France, Central Europe, Adrennes, Rhineland which included the Battle of the Bulge and building the bridge that was used by General Patton’s initial invasion of Germany. Robert was recognized by CT Secretary of State with a Public Service Award in 2009 for his service. Upon his return from the war he was a milk man in Wilton and Westport. He met and married the love of his life Dora May Cromley on June 13, 1948 and was married for 67 years.

Employed by the State of CT Department of Transportation for 30 years and by MBI as a Special Constable for 21years, Robert took great pride in his work and enjoyed it every day. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and a member of the East Avenue United Methodist Church. He was an avid photographer who enjoyed traveling, playing golf, singing hymns, playing the harmonica and singing to the love of his life, Dora, every day.

Robert is survived by his daughter; Pamela White (Urban), Son; Robert (Carolyn) White Jr., foster daughter; Ann Walsh (Hitchcock), Grandchildren; Christina Bernini, Robert M White III, Stephen (Tracey) Urban, Nicole McCoy, Kevin White, Amanda Urban, Rebecca Urban and Donald Urban III, Shannon and Allison Hitchcock, Great grandchildren; Anthony Ventrella, James Smith IV, Carmella Bradley, Carmella Bernini and Patricia and Gregory Wills all of Norwalk, brother; Charles White of Fairfield and four nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by his brothers; James T. and Eugene White.

Calling hours will be held on Friday May 6, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. Funeral services will be on Saturday May 7, at 11:00 am at the East Avenue United Methodist Church, 244 East Avenue, Norwalk. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, 81 Riverside Avenue, Norwalk. Donations may be made to the East Avenue United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.


Bettina Rubiano-Sciubba

Bettina Rubiano-Sciubba (Tina), 64, of Norwalk, CT went to heaven on Saturday, May 7th, 2016 at Norwalk Hospital. Born on September 3rd, 1951 in Manhattan, NY, she was the daughter of Joe Rubiano and the late Marion Favaloro Mastando.

In her early years, Bettina worked for the government. She later went on to freelance in accounting. In more recent years, during her retirement, Bettina decided to go back to school and study nursing. Bettina was a beautiful, strong, independent woman, who was into computers before they were popular. She loved coffee, music, and the Yankees.

Tina was predeceased by her devoted husband, Frank Sciubba, in August 2012. Bettina is survived by her loving brothers: Anthony & Joseph, her loving sisters: Mari-Jo, Lisa, Stephanie, and Serrie, her brother-in-laws: Jerry & John, and her sister-in-law: Kathy. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews: Amanda and Mikey, Gina and Dani, Holli, Toni, and Kris, Toni-Ann and Joey, and Johnny and Nikki. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Friends may call Thursday, May 12th from 5-7 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 92 E Ave, Norwalk, CT, with a prayer service at 6PM.

Mary Doukas Ladewig

Mary Doukas Ladewig, 76, wife of David E. Ladewig of Norwalk, passed away Saturday May 7, 2016 at the Norwalk Hospital. Born May 21, 1939 in Sparta, Greece, she was daughter of the late George Doukas of Sparta and Starvroula Mastorakos of Athens.

Mrs. Ladewig came to the U.S. in 1951, graduated from Meriden H.S., and received a B.S. and a M.S. in Business Education from Central Connecticut State University. She moved to Norwalk in 1981 and taught at Katherine Gibbs School. When the school closed in 1991, she worked at Norwalk Savings Society until 2001 and then at Norwalk Hospital until her retirement.

In addition to her beloved husband David, she is survived by her step-father Nicholas Mastorakos of Athens, Greece and her step-children Kim (Dane) Risley of Fairfield, CT and
their children Michael, Lauren, and Kate; and Brian (Nicole) Ladewig of Wilton, CT. She is also survived by her sisters, Claire Doukas of Cromwell, CT and her children Angelo and George Philippopoulos; Antonia Lambros (John) of Virginia Beach, VA and their children
Stephanie Coolidge, and Emmanuel and Sofia Lambros; Fredericke Ahimastos (George) of
Bergenfield, NJ, and their children Peter and Arlette; and sister Kalliope Doukas (Orestis) of Virginia Beach, VA; as well as by several beloved cousins.

Friends may call on Tuesday, from 4:00-8:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. Services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 238 West Rocks Road, Norwalk. Burial will follow in ST. John Cemetery, Norwalk.

John P. “Sean” Sheridan

Sean P. Sheridan, 86, of Norwalk, went to Heaven on May 7th, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving wife, Kathleen and sons, Sean and Patrick after a long illness.

Born in Balla, Co Mayo, Ireland, August 30, 1929, he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth Sheridan. After moving to the United States he was a longtime resident of Norwalk and was employed as assistant manager at A & P Food Stores for 35 years. Sean was a founding member of St. Philip Church; and served as an usher/greeter. He was an avid gardener and a big NY Giants and Major League baseball fan. Sean enjoyed going to the Gaelic American Club on Sundays to watch the Irish football games.

Survivors in addition to his loving wife, Kathleen and sons; Sean, of New Milford, and Patrick, of Norwalk, include two granddaughters; Elizabeth and Lucy, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters; Eileen Gavin and Mary McCobb, and brother; Michael Sheridan.

Sean lived a life that was devoted to helping others and he will be greatly missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 14th, at 11:00 A.M. in St. Philip Church. There are no calling hours and burial will be private.

Edith C. Bucknam

Edith C. Buknam, 88, wife of the late Robert N. Bucknam died Saturday, May 14th at Masonicare at Newtown.

Born in Wilton, CT daughter of the late Levi and Catherine Tierney Baird, Mrs. Bucknam was a long time Norwalk resident prior to moving to Newtown.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara A. Bucknam and Debbie Sanborn, four grandchildren and one great grandson. Mrs. Bucknam was predeceased by a son, John Bucknam and a daughter, Marjorie Czel.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 19th at 10:00 AM in Bald Hill Cemetery, 825 Ridgefield Road (Rt.33), Wilton, CT.

John W. Ellis

John W. Ellis, age 92, of Norwalk, CT passed away peacefully at home on May 21, 2016. He was born on April 6, 1924 in Bristol, RI to the late John W. and Louise Ellis.

He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Corridor during WWII as an Aviation Electrician’s Mate, First Class Petty Officer. He was a life member (since 1961) and past commander of the American Legion Post 12 on Country Street in Norwalk.

He was an electrician by trade for his career. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) for 67 years and a former Business Manager. He also served as Chapter Manager of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) for many years.

He is survived by his four children, Kathi Fitzherbert and husband Gary of Washington, CT, Jacqueline Ellis and husband Paul Gilbert of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Kevin Ellis and wife Jean of Vero Beach, FL and John Ellis and wife Michele of Fairfield, CT and his six grandchildren, Kristi Beck and husband Jon, Anne and Matthew Gilbert, Marina, Marissa and Colleen Ellis. He is also survived by two great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Sarah Beck.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 49 years, Dorothea Parks Ellis and his brother James Ellis. He is also predeceased by his loving partner of 8 years, Jean Iaizzi Black.

The wake will be held at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk on Wednesday, May 25 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. His memorial service will take place at Collins Funeral Home on Thursday, May 26 at 10:00 a.m. with interment following at Riverside Cemetery, 81 Riverside Avenue, Norwalk.

George Papadopoulos

George Papadopoulos, 65, husband of Haroula Kovlaka Papadopoulos of Norwalk, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016 at the Norwalk Hospital.

Born January 25, 1951 in Mesovouno, Kozani, Greece. He was the son of Kyriaki Chatzioannidou Papadopoulosthe and the late Lazaros Papadopoulos.

George grew up in Greece and came over with his family in 1974. Resident of Norwalk all his life, he worked at Hicks and Otis of Norwalk for over 30 years. George was also a successful musician and played several instruments while a member of a Greek band along with his brother and late father.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by sons Elia and Lazaros Papadopoulos of Norwalk, by a brother Kostantinos Papadopoulos of Norwalk, and nephews Lazaros Papadopoulos and Vlasios Papadopoulos, both of Norwalk

In addition to his father, Lazaros, he is predeceased by his sister in law, Sofia Papadopoulos.

Friends may call Tuesday, 5-8pm at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, 10am, at the St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 238 W Rocks Rd, Norwalk, CT 06851. Interment will follow thereafter at St Johns Cemetery, 223 Richards Ave Norwalk, CT 06850.

Pasquale D’Orio

Pasquale (Pat) D’Orio, 87, passed away Monday afternoon after battling a long illness. Pasquale, born on November 2, 1928, was a lifelong Norwalk resident, the son of the late Louis and Alice (Toone) D’Orio. He was a teacher in the Norwalk school system for 38 years, the last 25 at Marvin Elementary School.

 

He was married for 63 years to Beatrice (Trani) D’Orio. In retirement, the two shared their time between Norwalk and Palm Bay, Florida. He was a Korean War Army veteran, stationed in Vienna from 1951 to 1953. A 1946 graduate of Norwalk High School, Pasquale was a member of the first graduating class at Fairfield University. He also earned his Master’s degree and sixth-year degree. He was named to the Norwalk High School Alumni Honor Roll earlier this year.

 

He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and a volunteer at the Norwalk Hospital for more than 10 years. He was an avid reader and a regular card player. He had a sharp sense of humor, and loved spending time with his many grandchildren, attending numerous sporting events and piano recitals.

 

He was a beloved teacher, with an ability to inspire children to learn and they remembered him fondly years after they left his class. Due to his longevity, he was able to teach the children of many of his former students.

 

He was predeceased by a son, Louis D’Orio. He is survived by wife Beatrice (Trani) D’Orio, sister Mary D’Orio, and children, Jeffrey (Carla) D’Orio, Lauren (John) Stoops, Jill (Keith) Gallagher, and Wayne (Amy) D’Orio. He is also survived by grandchildren Shawn Stoops, Jonathan Stoops, Megan (Gallagher) Tripi, Conor Gallagher, Maura Gallagher, Jack Gallagher, Emma Gallagher, Stefanie Schaefer, Ethan D’Orio, Samuel D’Orio, and great-grandson Peter Tripi.

 

Calling hours will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 26, at the Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, May 27, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Avenue,  Norwalk. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery, 223 Richards Avenue, Norwalk.

Antoinette M. Camarota

Antoinette M. Camarota, 103, wife of the late Arthur Camarota, passed peacefully on May 26, 2016, in her home in Norwalk, CT.

Born September 20, 1912, in Norwalk, CT, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Josephine Amato.

Aside from being a homemaker, Antoinette was involved in various organizations through St. Joseph church for over 53 years, dedicating her time to the Children of Mary Altar Society, various fundraisers, and decorating the altar.

Antoinette was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her family more than anything and always put them first. She is survived by her children Diana and her husband Richard Zakhar of Norwalk, CT and Vincent Camarota and his wife Kathy of Brookfield, CT; 6 grandchildren, Vincent Camarota and his wife Jennifer of Trumbull, Timothy Camarota and his wife Ilona of Shelton, Sherri Camarota of Waterbury, Kimberly and her husband Brian Troccolo, of Southington, Jason Zakhar and his wife Jacki of Norwalk, Matthew Camarota and his wife Lindsey of North Port, Florida; 4 great-grandchildren Halle Camarota, Gia Camarota, Dominic and Brianna Troccolo; sister-in-law Mary Amato; She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Arthur, she was predeceased by her siblings Arthur, James, and Ralph Amato, Anna Connelly, Frances Manzi, Mary Pellegrino, and Faye Shepherd.

Roxanne Elizabeth Card

Roxanne Elizabeth Card “Rocky” 52, of Norwalk passed away Friday, May 27, 2016, at her residence in Norwalk. Born on March 23, 1964, at Norwalk Hospital, she was the daughter of the late Leon Bradley Card and step-daughter to Donald Remson.

Roxanne graduated from Norwalk High School. She then went on to work for attorneys Tom Vetter and Jack Imhoff. Roxanne worked many years at Accurate Graphics before starting at A&B Homecare and the Shore and Country Club. She was a Girl Scout leader for years with her daughters.

In addition to her mother, Beverly, Roxanne is survived by her daughters, Samantha Dorsey and Theresa Cole of Norwalk; one brother Donald Remson and his wife Kristin Remson. She is also survived by her nephew Brandon Remson.

Louis T. Renzuelli, Jr.

Louis T. Renzuelli, Jr., 61, of Norwalk passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2016, at his home. Born in Norwalk on November 1, 1954, he was the son of the late Ida DiCostanzo and Louis T. Renzuelli, Sr.

Lou had various occupations throughout his life.  Most notable was Manager of Construction Materials, Inc., of Bridgeport, CT and Manager of family owned Swanky Franks restaurant in Norwalk started by his late uncle, Al Renzuella.

Lou possessed a gregarious personality that could seem larger than life and had a wide variety of interests.  He possessed a love of history particularly of the WWII era, and enjoyed reading and creative writing in his spare time.  Lou enjoyed trips to the casinos and playing cards with longtime friends.  It was while spending leisure times with friends that his quick wit and fun loving sense of humor was most evident.

He regularly attended the football, basketball and baseball games and major school functions for the children of his closest friends and family whom he considered his nieces and nephews.

He was immensely proud of his parents.  This was particularly evident in his Father’s, Lou, Sr., accomplishments representing the city of Norwalk on the gridiron as well as his Father’s outstanding WWII service record in the United States Army.

Louis is survived by many extended family members and loving friends, he will be deeply missed.

Friends may call on Thursday, June 2, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 3, at 12:00 noon at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 229 Danbury Road, Wilton. Interment will be private.

John Paul Frank Sr.

John Paul Frank Sr., 81, (Retired Norwalk Police Department Captain), left this world peacefully on Monday, May 30th surrounded by family and friends, after fighting a courageous year-long battle with cancer.          

John was born December 31, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY. He spent four years in foster care before being adopted in 1939 by Elizabeth and Leo Frank of  Norwalk. Their summer home in Saugatuck Shores became their year-round home in 1948. There he developed a passion for boating and Long Island Sound, owning his first boat at age ten. He graduated from Staples High School in 1952. John became a Norwalk Police Officer in January 1961 and was a founding member of the Norwalk Police Union, and served as Union President for a time. He rose quickly through the ranks of the department and retired as Captain in January 1985.

He and Louise Buckley were married in 1953 and they raised their large family on East Meadow Lane in Norwalk. They resided there for 47 years before moving to Palmetto, FL, in 2012.

John was an accomplished mechanic and spent his time away from his police duties working on cars and boats. There was nothing he couldn’t fix. He was a witty individual and a wonderful storyteller who loved to tell jokes. His family will always remember him as a kind, generous, and fair man who would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was very proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and always encouraged them to pursue their goals.

His love of the Sound continued throughout his life. He served on the Norwalk Shellfish Commission from 1987 until 2010. He often traveled to Hartford to testify on issues concerning “Saving the Sound.” He kept boats at Cove Marina from 1985 until 1992, when he became the manager of the Saugatuck Harbor Yacht Club; a position he referred to as his “dream job.” After his retirement from the club in 2001, he and Louise traveled by RV for many years, collecting many friends, memories, and funky hats along the way. The summer of 2013 was spent travelling through Alaska, a long-dreamed-of vacation.

He was an active and dedicated member of St. Philip Church. He was a friend of Bill’s for thirty seven years and served on the board of the Alcoholism Council of Fairfield County for many years.

John is survived by the love of his life and wife of 63 years, “the kid”  Louise (née Buckley); his children: Patty Davis and her husband Bob of Georgetown; Peggy Frank of Norwalk; Eileen Anderson and her husband Mark of Omaha, NE; Andy Frank and his wife Joan of Westport; Liz Norris and her husband Harry of Norwalk; Gini Fischer and her husband Mark of Wilton; Sharon Ten of Richmond, VA; and John Frank, Jr. and his wife Dawn, of Westport; along with his sister, Maggie Teed of Norwalk. He leaves twenty-two grandchildren: Kevin Frank, Cheryl (née Frank) O’Byrne, Erin Frank, Barbara (née Davis) Tennant, Rob Davis, Edward Gormbley, Michelle (née Gormbley) Velez, David Welchman, Chuck Anderson, Ellie (née Anderson) Koeppe, Jack Anderson, Maggie Anderson, Patrick Frank, Caitlin Frank, Lauren Frank, Melissa (née Norris) Heffern, Michael Norris, Gregory Norris, Doug Fischer, Sharon Fischer, Ryan Ten and Ryan Chariott. He also leaves his ten great-grandchildren: Grace, Eleanor, and Madeline O’Byrne; Imani Velez; Conner and Dylan Gormbley; Jacob, Sawyer and Sloane Heffern; and Mason Norris. Hewas predeceased by his adoptive parents; biological mother, Mary Cunningham; son Leo Frank; and grandchildren Kimberly Norris, and Victoria and Daniel Welchman.

The family will receive visitors at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave, Norwalk on Sunday, June 5th from 4-8 pm. A Mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 10:00 am on Monday, June 6th, at St. Philip Church at 1 Fr. Conlon Place in Norwalk. Interment to follow at St. John’s Cemetery in West Norwalk. Donations in John’s memory to St. Philip Church or Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County would be appreciated.

Eileen Bleeks Dietl

Eileen Bleeks Dietl, 72, wife of John W. Dietl, of Norwalk, died peacefully at home with her family at her side on Tuesday, May 31, following a lengthy illness.

Born in Queens, New York, January 5, 1944, Eileen is the daughter of the late William J. and Eileen Mason Bleeks. Prior to retirement, Eileen was a bank officer at the former Union Trust Company. A member of St. Thomas the Apostle parish, Eileen enjoyed working at the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the parish thrift shop, and regularly helped with tag sales to benefit those in need. Eileen loved to stay active, and, prior to her illness, kept busy SCUBA diving, swimming at the YMCA, rollerblading, and dancing. In quieter times, she listened to music and was an avid reader. Together with John, Eileen enjoyed dining out with and entertaining friends, cheering on the UCONN Huskies and New York Yankees, and traveling to their favorite places – Rockport, MA, Old Saybrook, CT, and Pompano Beach, FL. Above all else, Eileen loved spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, survivors include three daughters, Michele Mace and her husband, Charlie, of Norwalk; Lisa Hellstrom, of Harrison Township, MI; Mary Anne Hundley, of Sebastian, FL; brothers, Bill Bleeks and his wife, Terry, of Wells, VT; Tom Bleeks and wife Susan, of Bethany, CT; grandchildren, Anthony and Christine Mace; Brian, Courtney and Blake Hundley; stepchildren, John Dietl and his wife, Pamela Fitts, of Tampa, FL, Jayne Mehner and her husband, Robert, of West Wardsboro, VT; Christine Desser and her husband, Jason, of Westport, CT; Sarah Dietl and her partner, Robert Montuoro, of Stratton, VT; ten step-grandchildren, and one step-great grandson.

Eileen’s family appreciates the excellent care provided by her doctors and nurses throughout her illness. They are especially thankful for Eileen’s caregiver, Genice Gordon, who was constantly by her side in her final months.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Avenue, Norwalk, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery, Richards Avenue, Norwalk.

Bethann McCann Brown

Bethann McCann Brown of Norwalk, CT, passed away on Tuesday, May 31st, at Norwalk Hospital in the arms of her strength, best friend and husband Jeff after a long, courageous battle with cancer.  She profoundly influenced the lives of all who knew her caring and loving spirit.

Bethann hailed from Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late William and Mary Ellen Doyle McCann.  She graduated summa cum laude from Purchase College.  An advertising wiz, she worked for top agencies including Deutsch and McCann/Erikson.  She volunteered at Norwalk Community Hospital and St. Paul’s on the Green.  Bethann was deeply loved and will be mourned by her devoted husband of 25 years, Jeff, faithful companion labs Milo and Zoey, brothers William, Gerard, Brian and Michael and their wives, in-law sibs Wendy, Laurie, Dianne, Bill and Cathy and their husbands and wives, loving nieces and nephews, father-in-law Bill, doting Great Aunt’s, a host of cousins and fabulous loving friends.  She touched all our lives with love and grace and lived her life fully with passion.

A celebration of Bethann’s beautiful life will be held at Collin’s Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk on Saturday, June 4thfrom 2:00 to 6:00 PM.  Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to St. Paul’s on the Green or Macedonia Outreach Church in Norwalk.

Edward J. Svec. Jr. 79, Born May 31, 1937 in Stamford, CT. He passed away peacefully at his home in Norwalk, CT on June 4, 2016.

He is survived by his loving wife Katherine Svec, his devoted son Kimball Svec, daughter Leslie Tarasyuk, his dear brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Julia Svec, loving sister Joan Svec Nickerson and her husband Jack, his adoring grandchildren Ashley Kimpton, Graham and Cameron McInnes, two loving step-daughters Carol Ann and Elaine Falkenberg and caring son-in-law Charles Goodrich. He also had many nieces and nephews and loved each of them!

He grew up in Stamford, Ct., graduated from Stamford High School and attended Bridgeport University. He had a Top Sales Position at Chase Packaging Company in Greenwich, CT and Monsanto Corporation for many years. He loved being in the Norwalk softball League and was an avid player for over 30 years. Golf was also a favorite pastime along with his much loved baseball team the Mets. On top of that, he was a member of the Norwalk Boat Club as well! He will forever be cherished and missed.

Friends may pay their respects at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06851,on Wednesday, June 8th from 11:00am to 12:00 Noon. There will be a burial service at St. John Cemetery, 223 Richards Avenue, Norwalk at 12:30pm.

Alice R. Devine

Alice Ryan Devine of East Norwalk, CT died peacefully with her loving family by her side on June 4, 2016.  She was the wife of the late Maurice “Moe” Edward Devine with whom she shared 34 years of marriage.  Born in Stamford on June 8, 1930, Alice was the daughter of the late William and Rose Tooher Ryan and the youngest of their six children.  She was raised in Stamford and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy.  Alice earned an undergraduate degree in History and English from the University of Connecticut in 1951.  She also earned a Masters Degree in Education and Counseling.  Alice was a teacher and guidance counselor for many years in the Stamford Public School System imparting her wisdom and knowledge on the students of the Burdick Junior High School.  Alice always looked back with great fondness on her time in the Stamford Public Schools and remembers many of her former students especially young Joseph Leiberman.

 

Alice spent the past 50 years living in East Norwalk where her passion as a teacher and guidance counselor carried forth in raising her three children.    She was an active member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish and an ardent supporter of Catholic education.  She has been a member of Shorehaven Golf Club in East Norwalk since 1956 and cherished her time there and the lifelong memories it provided her with family and friends.  Alice loved to play golf with her husband Moe, children and friends.  Over her 60 years of membership, she won the Husband Wife and the Queen Bee golf tournaments.  Alice also made a hole in one on the 15th hole in 1994.  She was an avid and adept bridge player.  Alice and Moe owned a second home at the base of Glen Ellen in Fayston, VT for thirty years where they spent many wonderful years skiing as a family.

 

Alice never stopped teaching and providing guidance.  Her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, in laws, extended family and friends were blessed to have the open and compassionate mind of Alice on their side.  She was never one to judge and saw the good in all she met.  Her wisdom, common sense and joy for a life well lived will be dearly missed by the many who had the honor of knowing her.

 

Alice is survived by her children, Michael and Catherine Prager Devine of Westport, CT, Richard and Susan McCarthy Devine of Norwalk, CT and Michael and Maura Devine McShane of Beverly, MA, and her grandchildren Jacqueline Devine, Cole Devine, Allison Devine, Brendan Devine, Michael McShane and Ryan McShane.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents and husband Maurice, Alice was predeceased by her brothers Vincent, William and Dr. John Ryan, her sisters Rita Iacovo and Rosemary Magner.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 8th at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT.   Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday, June 7th at the Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT.   Memorial contributions may be made to the Maurice and Alice Devine Memorial Scholarship for Catholic Education c/o All Saints Catholic School, 139 West Rocks Road, Norwalk, CT  06851.

Henriette E. Fontaine

Henriette E. Fontaine, 75 of East Norwalk, passed suddenly on Sunday, May 29th 2016.  She came to the U.S. with her family in 1952 and resided in East Norwalk most of her life.  Graduated from Norwalk High- class of 1958.  She was employed by Sperry Rand Corp., U.S. Surgical and GTE/Stamford and loved working with her co-workers.

She leaves her sister, Marlene Byington, (John Byington), niece, Shelley Byington-Schenk and her children, Mark, Ryan and Lauren.  Mother and father are deceased.

The Celebration of the Eucharist will be offered for the repose of the soul of Henriette E. Fontaine on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at 5:00PM at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church on 203 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT. 06855.

Josephine Theresa Ostreicher, wife of John Karl Ostreicher, died June 11, 2016 in Westport CT at the age of 92.

Daughter of John Teplica and Mary (Mozley) Teplica, she was born August 19, 1923 and was raised and spent most of her life in Darien, CT. She graduated from Darien High School and later completed course work at Katherine Gibbs in Norwalk, CT followed by employment as a secretary.

She married John Karl Ostreicher in 1947 and raised three sons in Darien. She also worked many years at Four Seasons Farm in Darien, owned by Mark and Jean Isselee. She was a member of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, Darien where in her later years she participated in the choir.

She is survived by her three sons, Kim and wife Hesun of Londonderry, NH; Jan and wife Patricia of Fairfield, CT; and Jay and wife Janet of Westport, CT; grandchildren Tammy, Arica, Justen, Jongho, Jongwon, Jessie, Jason, Jennifer, Erin and Kate; and 6 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Ostreicher was predeceased by her husband John Karl, and siblings Francis, Marion DeForest, Charles Teplica, William Teplica and Elizabeth Tyler.

A private memorial service will be held at the V.A. Cemetery in Middletown, CT. at a future date. Donations are gratefully appreciated in memorial to a charity of your choosing.
