Emma Mackenzie Splan was born on May 26, 2011. She was very honored to have shared the birthdate with her big cousin, Ryan Pugh. Our hearts collectively broke on February 18, 2018.

Emma’s greatest trait was her big heart and her unwavering desire to be kind and do the right thing. She stuck up for her friends and always made sure everyone was ok. Emma loved to sing, cook, and draw. She loved ballet, princesses, dressing up, playing with her dolls, playdates with her many friends, skiing, ice skating, riding horses, and traveling. Emma loved school, her teachers, playing kitty and chase on the playground, and recess. She especially loved riding the school bus. She was a budding fashionista who would draw beautiful fashions and put together amazing ensembles, complete with “scessories”. She wanted to be either a teacher or a popstar when she grew up and spent a lot of time making “youtube” videos filled with painting and baking instructions. Emma loved being pampered and getting her nails done and ‘ssages’. She had the most beautiful and soft golden mermaid hair. She liked to ski and go over jumps. She was an animal whisperer and all the animals loved to get close to her, especially dogs, cats, deer, and butterflies. Emma recently started getting an allowance and wanted to donate it to all the kids who didn’t have a home or toys. Emma was always up for an adventure and we as her family wish with all our hearts that we could go on more of them together. She was braver, nicer and kinder than we ever could be and never ceased to amaze us with her generosity.

Emma is survived by her parents, Christy “Mama” Pugh and Dave “Dada” Splan, doggy-sister Zoey, Grandparents Mary “Mom” Pugh, Popi Pugh, Tata Marie Milcent, Sydney “Nanny” Splan, and Angela “Grandma” Herrera, her aunts and uncles; Wendy & Ken Collins, Mike & Helene Pugh, Olivia & Lexa Occelli, and Heather Bristol, her 5 cousins, Lhiannon, Gavin, Ryan Collins, and Ryan & Claire Pugh and her many adopted aunts, uncles; Sarah & Erik Lutkus, Allison Palloto, Angel & Katie Garcia, Nina & Brad Card, Brad Davis, “Auntie Jelly” Jill, Bob Duff, Katrin R, Eileen & Steve Rogers, and especially her adopted doggy brothers and sister, Mickey, Benny, Macey, Gus, Clyde and Alex. She was predeceased by her doggy brothers and sisters Skyler, Cartman, Riley, Kody and Archie. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Services to honor Emma will be Saturday, February 24 from 1 – 4 PM at Collins’ Funeral Home in Norwalk, CT.

In lieu of flowers, Emma’s family has a GoFundMe link, https://www.gofundme.com/emmasplan that will be used to donate to Emma’s favorite local charities; PAWS in Norwalk where she read to the animals and Emma’s wonderful school, Columbus Magnet School, where she can continue to help the children she loved.

Maryann Theresa (Carroll) Flynn, fondly known as Annie, was born a fighter, a statistic killer, a walking outlier–all of which combined to make her life truly remarkable. Born June 14th, 1951 to Francis “Bud” and Theresa Carroll of Fairfield, her resilience and ever-lasting positive attitude allowed her to break generations worth of cycles to be a symbol of change that was so desperately needed.

Annie attended Penn Hall Junior College where she went on to become the school’s top tennis player and was named Girl of the Year in 1971. Later on, she spearheaded the program for Tracey School in Norwalk to obtain accelerated accreditation. She was a tremendously talented artist across many mediums who put her abilities and compassion to use by volunteering for programs she was passionate about throughout the years. She had many hobbies such as knitting, gardening, sculpting, hiking, and photography.

Annie never complained and was selfless to the core, a characteristic that carried over to everything she did. She loved, cared, and advocated for her predeceased husband, John Flynn of Norwalk, during both of his long illnesses. She was his rock and caregiver, an act that modeled what love was to her surviving daughters, Bridget and Colleen. When she became ill with a rare form of dementia at a young age, they cared for her as she had shown them so many years and times before. Annie is also survived by her daughters’ husbands and grandchildren, Andrew Tsilfides (Bridget) plus their two sons, Aristotle and Zachary, and Steven Ford (Colleen). She is additionally survived by her Carroll brothers Robert, Clifford, Daniel, Francis Jr., and Mark as well as Kimball step-siblings Bruce, Nancy, and Susan. Luisa (Mammoliti) Cappuccia

Luisa (Mammoliti) Cappuccia, 77, passed away peacefully Sunday at Yale-New Haven Hospital, surrounded by her husband, daughters and sister.

Luisa’s final days were spent in much the same manner as she lived her life: quietly, bravely, with faith in God, and immersed in the love of her family. Although small in stature, Luisa always made a big impact on those she met. Her compassionate, unassuming nature drew people to her, her family says, and made them fall in love with her. Despite her compromised health, Luisa befriended the staff at Yale-New Haven Hospital and impressed them with her courage and kindness.

Her loss will be most deeply felt by those to whom she devoted her life. Luisa was the matriarch of a large, extended family that will miss her gentle guidance, generosity, intellect and, most of all, her big heart, which made each and every member of her family feel loved, respected and important.

Although devastated by the loss of Luisa, her family takes great joy and solace in remembering the many moments they have celebrated with Luisa during the course of her long and full life, including the 50th anniversary of her marriage to her husband Gennaro in August of 2017. The couple raised “5 Girls” together – an achievement happily publicized by the trademark license plate on their minivan – Laura (Sean) Szekely, Sandra (Rit) Ehlers, Diana Cappuccia, Linda (Bob) Grelotti, and Norma (Chris) Sabol.

Luisa spent the first seven years of her life living in a small town in the mountains of Calabria, Italy. She then moved to Valle d’aosta with her parents and sister (Tonina Chieffalo). At age 14, she emigrated to Montreal, Canada. She later moved to Danbury, Conn. before settling in Norwalk. She met her husband in 1966 and the couple married in 1967.

Much of Luisa’s adult life was spent happily driving her daughters to dance classes, sporting events and theatre productions. She regularly opened her heart and her home to their friends, making sure they were well-fed and comfortable. Later, she would do the same for her 10 grandchildren: Regan and Patrick Szekely; Chris, Brian, and Andrew Ehlers; Jake and Kaylie McCarthy; Michele and Katherine Grelotti; and Natalie Sabol. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she would brag about them to anyone who would listen.

When she wasn’t immersed in her family, Luisa was an active member of the community. She was a longtime member of St. Philip Church as an acolyte and Eucharistic minister. She was the recording secretary of her bowling league and bowled with them for many years. Luisa was also the captain of her bocce team which she played with for more than 30 years. Luisa was also an active member of St. Ann’s Club where she was past-president of the Women’s Auxiliary and a member of the Board of Directors. During the Club’s annual Feast, Luisa was a staple at the pizza fritta table, expertly producing the tasty treats for customers and serving them with her trademark warm smile.

In quiet moments, she could be found doing cross-word puzzles at her kitchen table, cooking at the stove with her favorite TV shows on in the background, or volunteering. Luisa also enjoyed traveling with her husband, brother, and sister-in-law, Nicandro and Mary Ann Cappuccia (The 4 Musketeers). She spoke three languages fluently: Italian, French and English.

In addition to her husband, daughters, and grandchildren, Luisa is survived by a large, extended family: Filice and Pino Cardone, Alba and Soliman Ben-Barka, and countless cousins, nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her parents (Maria and Michele Mammoliti), her baby brother (Domenico Mammoliti), brother and sister-in-law, Agnese and Gaetano DelGuidice, and brother-in-law Sal Chieffalo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 28, at 10:00 AM at St. Philip Church, 1 Father Conlon Place, Norwalk. Entombment will follow in St. John cemetery, 223 Richards Avenue, Norwalk.

Friends may call on Tuesday, March 27, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home. The ladies of St. Ann’s will gather for the wake at 7:00 PM. T

Luisa’s husband and daughters would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Yale-New Haven Hospital for going above and beyond in her final days, making her feel safe and supporting them until the very end.
