Raymond Casey Liu

Raymond Casey Liu, 89, was the husband of Mary Ann Liu for 65 years, passed away on Thursday, October 12, in Norwalk, CT.

He was born in Tainan, Taiwan.  Ray earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from National Taiwan University and then a master’s degree from Ohio State University.  In 1964 he was hired by Perkin-Elmer and settled in Norwalk.  He remained active with the company until age 79, when he retired as a senior electronics design engineer in the electro-optical and Micralign semiconductor divisions.

Ray enjoyed singing, golf and sharing many stories of his experiences with family and friends.  Despite his many obligations, he found time to write three memoirs on Taiwan history and his family’s background.

Ray was a long-time member of Norwalk United Methodist Church (now Cornerstone Community Church).  He was kind to many and a loving, and generous person.

Ray was predeceased by his son, George, his sister Helen Lai and older brother, Kai-Tso and his wife Lily.  He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, son Bob of Chapel Hill, NC, daughter Shirley Liu Fong, her husband Conrad, son Geoffrey of Burlington, MA, his brother Robin and wife Shou-Shou of Taipei, Taiwan, brother Percy and wife Lucile, of Winchester, MA.  Also, the husband of Helen Lai, Dr. Y. H. Lai and brother-in-law, J. Y. Chu from Taipei, Taiwan.

Friends may call on Tuesday, October 17, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. Services will be held graveside on Wednesday, October 18, at 11:00 am, at Riverside Cemetery, 81 Riverside Avenue, Norwalk.  A memorial service will take place on Saturday, October 28, at 1:00 PM at the Cornerstone Community Church.

Frank A. Ross

Frank A. Ross Senior passed away peacefully at Norwalk’s Autumn Lake Senior Residence on Saturday morning, October 14, 2017.  Frank was born on February 10th of 1928 to Antonio (Rogucci) Ross and Vincenza (Paladino) Ross and grew up in Norwalk with his two sisters and brother.

He served in the Korean War after being drafted in September of 1950 as a Sergeant with the 116th Combat Engineers earning two battle stars.  Frank was an Electrician in Fairfield County for over 30 years and a member of St. Thomas of the Apostle Church in East Norwalk.

Frank is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Irene (Despres) Ross and his three sons, Frank Jr. and his wife Debra of Norwalk, Thomas and his wife Doreen of Norwalk and George and his wife Terry of Pottstown, PA, as well as grandchildren Michael Ross and his wife Michelle, Michelle Ross and her husband Marcell, Jennifer (Ross) Dunstan and her husband Alex, Sandra Ross, Joshua Ross and his wife Elizabeth and Steven Ross and his wife Jenni, and two great grandchildren, Lilian and Nicholas.   He is also survived by his sisters Connie Capuano and Sue Stewart, as well as many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Andrew.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 20, at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Avenue, Norwalk. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, 223 Richards Avenue, Norwalk. Friends may visit with the family Friday morning from 9:00 to 9:30 AM in the funeral home.

Jose A. Reyes

Jose A. Reyes BKA Tony, age 55 entered into eternal rest on Tuesday October 17, 2017 in the comfort of his own home.

He is survived by his beloved wife Carmen V. Reyes, daughters Jennifer & Diana Reyes, granddaughters Dayanara & Chloe Ortega and Kaleigh Lugo. He is also survived by two sisters Monserrate Morales & Iris Reyes, and two brothers Hector Reyes and Jose Torres as well as a slew of nieces and nephews.

Tony loved his daily drives around the beach each day and will be routing for the Yankees from up above. He enjoyed life to the fullest and was always the life of the party. His contagious laugh and humor will surround us all for years to come.

Calling hours are 3-6pm Sunday October 22, 2017 at Collins Funeral Home 92 East Ave, Norwalk CT. Funeral & internment will be Monday October 23, 2017 at St. Josephs Church 85 South Main Street, Norwalk CT.

Sophia Heliotis

Sophia Heliotis, 92, passed away peacefully at home on October 20, 2017, with her family by her side.  She was the loving and devoted wife of the late Peter A. Heliotis.

She was born in Georgitsi, Sparta, Greece on April 10, 1925 to the late Panagiotis and Ekaterini Bakis, and emigrated to the United States in 1960 and settled in Stamford, Connecticut. She worked for Electrolux Corporation as a machinist for over twenty years.

A warm and loving mother and grandmother, Sophia enjoyed caring for home and family, tending her beautiful gardens and entertaining friends with her delicious Greek cuisine.  She cherished, and was very proud of, her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Heliotis is survived by her son, Dr. Arthur Heliotis and his wife, Maria; her daughter, Anne Papastathis and her husband, Dennis; her grandchildren, George Papastathis and his wife, Dawn; Dr. Nicole Papastathis Huffman and her husband, Dr. Steven Huffman; Peter Heliotis and his wife, Ashley, and Nicholas Heliotis, as well as three great grandchildren, Zoe Anne Papastathis, Dean Keith Huffman, and Natalie Sophia Huffman, and many nieces and nephews here and in Greece.

She was predeceased by her four brothers, John, George, Athanasios and Ilias Bakis and one sister, Vasiliki Bakis.

Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. Calling hours are on Monday, October23rd, 4-8 PM.  Services will be on Tuesday, October 24th at 10 AM at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 1230 Newfield Avenue, Stamford. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, 223 Richards Avenue, Norwalk.

Robin Spielman Williams

Robin Spielman Williams, 56, of Norwalk, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2017 at home with her mother by her side.

Robin was born January 8, 1961 in Norwalk, CT, to Lois M. Spielman and the late Robert A. Spielman.

She graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1979 and later from The Katherine Gibbs Business School in Norwalk. She worked as a loan auditor at Merrill Lynch Mortgage Company and was later employed by the late Dr. John Wilson for many years.

She was a devoted parishioner of St. Jerome’s Church in Norwalk.

One of Robin’s greatest joys in life was spending time with her family. She is fondly remembered by her many cousins for having a wonderful sense of humor. She was one who always made others laugh. She had great empathy for everyone and spent several recent years caring for her parents.

In addition to her mother Lois, she is survived by two brothers: Robert W. Spielman (wife Bette) of Ridgefield, CT and William N. Spielman (wife Mary) of Norwalk, eight nieces and nephews, three great-nieces and one great-nephew.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Oct. 30, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Jerome’s Church, 23 Half Mile Rd., Norwalk, CT. There will be no calling hours. Collins Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jerome’s Church.

Bernard Liebman

Bernard Liebman, husbandof Lenore Liebman, passed away on October 25, 2017 in Norwalk Hospital. Born in Jamaca , NY on January 10, 1927, he was the son of the late Mark and Mary Liebman.

In the town of Norwalk, Barney was best known as the owner of Bargain World, but his greatest accomplishment and favorite job was as a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Nothing pleased him more than being with his family.

In addition to Lenore, his wife of 68 years, Barney is survived by his 3 daughters, Beth Church (Lawrence), Susan Lange (Jeffrey), and Judith Meyers. He also leaves 7 grandchildren: John, Michael, Jonathan, Andrew, Jared, Rebecca, and Heidi, as well as great-grandchildren Daniel and Benjamin.

Bernard was predeceased by his siblings, Irving, Edith, and twin sister Bernice, as well as by his son-in-law Paul.

The liebman family wishes to express their love and gratitude to Vilma, “Mr. L’s” long-time caregiver.

A graveside service will be held on Friday at 12:00 Noon in Beth Israel Cemetery, 225 Richards Avenue, Norwalk, CT. Shiva will be observed at the home of Lenore Liebman on Sunday. Robert Satter

Long time Westport resident, Robert Satter, age 94 of Westport, CT passed away on October 26 after a brief illness.

Bob, as he was known as to family and friends, was born in 1923 in Bennington, VT. After graduating DeWitt Clinton High School in New York, Bob moved to Norwalk and with the start of World War II enlisted in the Army-Air Force. Stationed in London, Bob flew in over 30 missions as a radio operator and belly gunner, being awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and two battle stars as well as the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters.

He married the love of his life Jean in 1946 and in 1954 settled down in Westport where they raised their two sons Keith and Blair.

Bob had a successful photography business over 40 years and was an avid sailor often known in the summers to be “On Location” his sailboat.

He was an avid reader, lover of Jeopardy and the UConn Women’s Basketball team but loved nothing more than spending time with family and friends telling stories. He was a regular at Gold’s in Westport and was well recognized in his red Mustang convertible.

Two years ago, the Town of Westport honored Bob by naming him Grand Marshall of the annual Memorial Day Parade.

Bob will be missed by many, but forgotten by no one that knew him.

He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Jean, and his daughter-in-law Debbie Satter. Along with his sons, Bob is survived by his daughters-in-law Ellen Satter, (Trumbull, CT) and Betsy Bernstein (Harrison, NY), and his grandchildren, Alex Panagos, Daniel Satter, Lori, Birrell and her husband, Terran, and Rachel Satter.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 27 at Congregation Beth El, East Avenue, Norwalk.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Westport, CT Public Library.

Patricia Joy Lovas

Patricia Joy Lovas, fondly known as Patty, passed peacefully in her home on October 19, 2017.    She was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Przybisiki.   A life-long resident of Norwalk, Patty happily retired from her career as a book-keeper.   Patty loved to crochet, embroider, tend to her flowers and dote on her grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Paul; three children, Eric (Nancy) Lovas, Tricia (Efren) Perez, and Chris (Brooke) Lovas; 5 grandchildren, Jackson, Ryan, Ben, Evelyn and Lily; and a brother, John (Sue) Przybisiki.

Patty’s sense of humor and big smile will be missed.

A memorial service will be held at Collins Funeral Home in Norwalk on Saturday, November 4th from 3:00-5:00 pm.


Ladda Bowman

Ladda Bowman, 73, of Wilton, wife of the late Samuel G.A. Bowman Jr., passed away October 29, 2017 at the Norwalk Hospital. Born in Thailand on November 4, 1943, she was the owner of Sam’s Refuse LLC in New Canaan.

She is survived by her two sons Detchat Preepaiboon (Dee) and his wife Lisa of Wilton and son Jason W. Bowman of Wilton. She is also survived by her grandson Ryan T. Preepaiboon.

Friends may call on Thursday from 4:00-8:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM in Hillside Cemetery, 70 Ridgefield Road, Wilton.

Joyce Marion (Benson) Broomer

Joyce Marion (Benson) Broomer passed away on Tuesday, October 24th, in Newtown, Connecticut. She was 87 years old.

A former Norwalk resident, she was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York; the daughter of the late Raymond and Marion (Schenck) Benson. She was a long-time employee of Norden Systems in Norwalk, and was a member of the First Congregational Church on the Green.

She is survived by a daughter, Stacey A. Saraceni, sons-in-law James A. Saraceni and Brian J. Barbour, as well as six grandchildren: Brian, Francis, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Annalise and Michele. She is also survived by her Dear Sister, Beverly Raymond and her husband, John, in addition to her nieces and nephews: David, Millie, Linda, Chet, Allison, Dawn, and Angelique.  She was pre-deceased by her Beloved husband, Richard M. Broomer, a son, Douglas M. Broomer and a daughter, Karen L. Barbour, as well as a brother, Raymond Benson, Jr.
She will be remembered for her unconditional love and loyalty to her family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Saturday, November 4th at 11:15 AM in Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk, friends may visit with the family from 10:30 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be private.

Lynne Klein

Lynne Klein (née Hummer), wife of the late Dr. Jerome J. Klein, passed away peacefully  after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer,  on Sunday October 29th at Norwalk Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born December 2nd, 1939 in Stamford, Connecticut, Lynne was the daughter of the late Herbert and Helen Killeen Hummer.  Lynne graduated from Mother of God High School in 1956 and went on to receive a Bachelor degree in Accounting from the University of Bridgeport.  In 1987, Lynne married the love of her life, Dr. Jerry Klein and they resided in Weston, before moving to Norwalk in 2011.  She worked at Pitney Bowes Credit Corp, and then as Comptroller of ATL Enterprises Inc. until 2001 when she chose to retire in order to spend more time with her children and grandchildren—something she valued more than anything.

Lynne is survived by her daughters Karen Santora and her husband Jeff of Ridgefield, Cindy D’Acunto and her husband Thomas of Wilton; her stepsons Dana Klein and his wife Sonya of Darien and Jonathan Klein and his wife Ellen Petri of Concord, MA.  Additionally, “Nanie” is survived by her eight grandchildren; Thomas and Christopher D’Acunto, Eric Santora, Christopher Porter, Rachel, Elana, Hannah, and Harrison Klein.  She is also survived by her sisters Karen Gracey and her husband Joe and Carole Rozmus and her husband Carl.  In addition to her son Anthony Ciliberto, she was predeceased by her brothers Robert and Jay Hummer.

Friends may call on Saturday, November 4th, from 11:00AM to 1:30PM, with a service to immediately follow, at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk, Connecticut.  In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Whittingham Cancer Center of Norwalk Hospital.

Harry H. Topalian

Harry H. Topalian, 91, husband of Norma Topalian, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2017, in his Weston, CT home. He was born on January 15, 1926 in Providence, Rhode Island to Krikor and Orzen Topalian.

Among Harry’s proudest achievements is his voluntary service during World War II in the United States Army, from 1944-1946. Upon safely returning from duty he completed his high school degree and married Norma Reynolds on April 22, 1950.

They moved to Miami Florida where Harry attended the University of Miami. He graduated in 1954 with a BS in Food Science. He was the first member of his family to receive a college degree.

Harry began working at General Foods, notably contributing to the launch of Stove Top Stuffing and he holds 30 patents in products that are staples in American kitchens to this day. He and his family settled in Weston, Connecticut in 1981 and he retired in 1988.  With an enduring passion for his work, he then opened his own lab, Topalian Group Incorporated, which he co-operated until 2015, with long-time friend and associate Joe Ackilli.

Harry is survived by his wife Norma, brother George Topalian, nieces Robbie Babigian, Kara, Virginia, Joan, and Kerri Topalian, nephew Steve Babigian, sons Harry and Greg as well as daughter-in-law Andrea and grandchildren Olivia, Kylie and Derek. He is predeceased by his parents and sister Mary Babigian.

Friends may visit with the family on Monday, November 6, from 11:00 am to 12:30pm at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk.  A service will follow at 12:30 pm in the funeral home. Graveside services with military honors will take place at 1:30 pm on Monday at Hillside Cemetery, 165 Ridgefield Road, Wilton, CT.

Frances Jane [Hanlon] Jarboe

Frances H. Jarboe, 87, of Norwalk, died Wednesday, November 1st, at home with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Robert Wellesley Jarboe.

Born in New Haven, daughter of the late William Farrell Hanlon, Sr. and Theresa Johnston Hanlon, she was raised in Shorefront Park [S. Norwalk], and attended St. Joseph School; later graduating from Sacred Heart Academy [Stamford]. Mrs. Jarboe graduated from Trinity College, in Washington, D. C.

On December 28, 1954, she wed Robert Wellsley Jarboe, in St. Joseph Church.  They went on to raise their nine sons, and working part time at the gift shop at A. J. Collins Furniture Store. After the boys grew older, Fran worked for ‘Golf Digest’ magazine [part of New York Times Publishing Corp.] – enjoying every minute of this second career. Her greatest joy was sharing the company and stories of her beloved grandchildren and great grandson. She was a devout catholic and dedicated member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish.

Fran is survived by her nine sons; Mark Jarboe and wife Jacqueline, of Montauk, New York, John and wife Martha, of Tucson, Arizona, Paul and wife Marie, of Wilton James Jarboe and wife Cindy, of Trumbull, Philip and partner John, of Palm Springs, California, Peter and wife Mary, of Norwalk, Christopher, also of Norwalk, Stephen and wife Pamela, of Groton Mass., Matthew and wife Kimberly, of Danbury. Also surviving are sixteen grandchildren; Nicholas, Clint, Kate, Paul Thomas, Jr., Daniel and wife Jessica, Marianne, Jamie, Kevin, Jeffrey, Andrew, Jackson, Max, Makinsey, Avery, Wyatt and Sadie; also great-grandson Daniel Patrick Jarboe, Jr.

In addition to her husband and parents, Fran was preceded in death by two brothers, William Hanlon and wife Shirley and Joseph Hanlon and wife Delores. And sister in law Vernona Jarboe.

A Con-celebrated Mass of Christian Burial take place Tuesday, November 7th, at 11:00 A. M., in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Avenue. She will be buried in St. John Cemetery next to her beloved Wells; who died in 2009 on what would have been their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary. There will be no calling hours.

Mark David Namm

Mark D. Namm, 55, of Norwalk, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at the Smilow Cancer Center at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born December 2, 1961, in Miami, Florida, he was the son of the late Arthur and Shirley Namm. Mark grew up in Bowie, Maryland, and attended college at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Mark worked as a manager at Kmart for several years before becoming a real estate agent. In his spare time he enjoyed riding his bike and rooting for the New York Yankees. He is survived by his daughter Shana and his girlfriend Lucy Kramer of New York, New York.

He is also survived by his sister Barbara of Miramar Beach, Florida and his brother Howard of Atlanta, Georgia.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at Temple Shalom, 259 Richards Avenue, Norwalk, CT. Interment will follow in IHS/Temple Shalom Cemetery, 143 Richards Avenue, Norwalk,CT. Donations in his memory may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org).


Madeline E. Curci

Madeline E. Curci, 82, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. She was the wife of Samuel Curci Jr., of Westport, for 65 years.
Born in South Portland, Maine on April 14, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Harriet Lindquist Beal.
Madeline worked at Famous Artists Schools in Westport and later as a school crossing guard for 20 years. She was active in cub scouting as a den leader and den leader coach. She participated in round tables and training. Madeline was the first woman in Fairfield County to work as an assistant Commissioner and later became Commissioner. She received the highest award in scouting The Wood Badge in 1978 (England). She volunteered in scouting for more than 20 years. Her hobbies were knitting and needle pointing, and she loved making things for her family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Samuel, Madeline is survived by her children, Deborah Mollica (John) of Shelton, CT, Samuel Curci, III, of Longmont, CO, Anna Carroll (Mark) of Fairfield, CT, and Nicholas Curci (Karen) of Westport, CT. She is also survived by her two brothers, Junior and Ronald Lindquist.
Madeline was predeceased in life by her sisters Barbara Clapp and Beverly Kealer and by her brother Bobby Lindquist.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 10, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s On The Green, 60 East Avenue, Norwalk. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, 81 Riverside Avenue, Norwalk.

Christopher “Chris” Lee Guerette

Christopher “Chris” Lee Guerette died peacefully in his home on November 9th in Norwalk CT at the age of 33.

Chris is survived by his wife Nicole, brother Jeffrey, mother and father Nancy and Jeff Guerette.  Loving husband, son, brother and father to be, Chris was born on May 26, 1984 in Greenwich CT, to parents Jeffrey and Nancy Guerette.

His personality was so strong that his love could tackle you, his sarcasm could level you and his wit could astound you. He brought such boisterous laughter into every room he entered, it would even resound long after he left. His charm was so palpable and will truly be everlasting.

A memorial service will be celebrated on Saturday, November 18th at 1:00 PM at St. John Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien, CT; Interment will be private.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, November 17th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk.

J. Woodford “Woody” Strong

J. Woodford Strong, “Woody”, 90, of Norwalk, died Monday, November 13, 2017 at the Norwalk Hospital.

Born February 26, 1927 in Highland Park, IL, he was the son of the late J. Woodford and Mildred Coffin Strong.

Mr. Strong served in the Navy during World War II and later worked as a Graphics Technician for American Cyanamid Co. (later known as Cytec). He was trained as an artist and was passionate about music, especially the big bands.

Helena M. Duchnoski

Helena M. “Lee” Duchnoski, 89, wife of the late Frank T. Duchnoski, died Tuesday, November 14th, at Notre Dame Convalescent Home.

Born in Norwalk, August 21, 1928, daughter of the late Ernest F. and Mary S. Meisel, she was a life long city resident. She graduated Norwalk High School Class of 1946 and prior to retirement, Mrs. Duchnoski had been a secretary; working at Nash Engineering, Zell Products and retiring from Vectron Laboratory.

Lee was a member of the Norwalk Senior Center and a log time parishioner of St. Philip R. C. Church.

Survivors include a daughter; Debra {John} Singer of Fairfield, four grandchildren; Michelle {Chris] Sanford, Noelle {James} Hart, Danielle Singer  and John Singer, Jr., four great grandchildren; Shane, Blake and Brynn Sanford and Aubrey Hart, and one sister; Marie Russo, of Florida.

A brother, Fred Meisel is predeceased.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday {Nov. 17th} at 10:30 A. M. in St. Jerome Church, 23 Half Mile Road. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery.

Friends may call Thursday evening 6:00 to 8:00 P. M. at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue.

Joseph K. Dates, 70, of Norwalk, CT passed away on November 9, 2017 after a brief illness.

Originally from Groton, NY, he was the son of the late John “Karl” Dates and Irene Dates. He received his degree from Iona College. He spent his career as a registered nurse at St. Vincent’s Hospital, culminating as a visiting nurse throughout southern and eastern Connecticut.

He was a beloved family member and a true foodie, world traveler, linguist, and admirer of the cultural arts.  He is survived by his twin brother Jon Dates of Groton, NY, his niece Kim Blanck (Dates) of Holbrook, NY, his nephew Brian Dates of Lewisburg, WVA, several cousins and friends.

He was laid to rest at Temple Shalom Cemetery in Norwalk, CT.  Donations in his name may be made to: Rotary International (www.rotary.org).
