On March 22nd 2020,  Judith (Judi) G. Caravan, (68 yrs old) my mother and best friend’s journey came to an end.  Five years ago she was diagnosed with an ovarian clear cell carcinoma, a rare and aggressive cancer.

She was and always will be a beloved wife, mother, sister and friend.

Despite her diagnosis, she continued to work, to smile and enjoy her favorite activities such as cooking, knitting, watching her cooking shows and spending time with her two grandchildren.

She was a warrior.  And the weaker she got, the stronger I saw her get.

She was no longer fighting with weapons of trying to cure this or heal this, she was fighting back with peace.  Not letting a ravenous monster steal your peace is the bravest thing anyone can do.

And at her last breath, she was at peace.

When she died, to the crowds in the area, it looked like she’d lost.

But what they didn’t see was that she only finished her part of the race.

She passed the baton to me.  She passed the baton to my children.

She paved the way for our own fight in this life, the constant fight for peace in a chaotic world.

She gave us love.  She gave us each other so we would not have to do this alone.

She is survived by her husband, Donald;  her loving children Tiffanie (Matthew) and Lee; and her beautiful grandchildren Robert and Reagan.

Judi touched many lives.

We will have a Celebration of Life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to NOCC, OCRA or TEAL.

Please make sure to include Judi’s name and address on your donation, so that other women with ovarian cancer can benefit from further research and education.
