Elinor B. Devine, 98, wife of the late Robert B. Devine of Norwalk, Connecticut died on January 17, 2019 at Brightview on New Canaan.
Born on September 8, 1920 in Stamford, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Frank P. Barrett and Frances D. Barrett.
Mrs. Devine attended Grey Court School in Stamford, Connecticut and received an associate’s degree from Marymount College in Tarrytown, New York. She was a charter member of St. Philip’s Parish, a longtime member of Shorehaven Golf Club (where she was awarded honorary membership status) and was active for 38 years on the Women’s Board of the Norwalk Hospital.
Known for hosting large family gatherings at her beloved home on West Rocks Road, Ellie was always the “life of the party” who enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She is survived by her sister Mary Barrett Cleary and her five children: D’Arcy Haskins of Danbury, Connecticut, Peter Devine (Sharon) of Bridgewater, New Hampshire, Jay Devine (Cathy) of Norwalk, Connecticut, Bing Devine of Stamford, Connecticut, daughter-in-law Sheila Devine of Norwalk, Connecticut and Cissy Armstrong (Tom) of Milford, Connecticut. She is survived by 14 grandchildren: Michael Haskins, Rebecca Coutre, Matthew Devine, Sarah Devine, Kevin Devine, Dan Devine, Rob Devine, Kim Devine, Shannon Devine, Chris Devine, D’Arcy Devine, Alex Armstrong, and Valerie Armstrong. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren: Maggie, Emmett, Will, Bridget, Ryan, Evan, Fiona, Emma, Audrey, Sam, Delilah and Kay. She is predeceased by her husband Robert B. Devine, her son Timothy “Tex” Devine, her granddaughter Kelly Devine and her son-in-law William Haskins. The family would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Brightview, Constellation Hospice Services, and Angelic Elderly Care for the wonderful care Ellie received.
Friends may call on Monday, January 21, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk, Connecticut. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 22 at 10 a.m. in St. Philip Church, 1 Father Conlon Place, Norwalk, Connecticut. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, 223 Richard Avenue, Norwalk, Connecticut.
