Carlos Efrian “Charlie” Colón Sr., 81, of Newark, died Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Altercare North. He was born October 1, 1937 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico to the late Rosendo and Hilaria (Ojeda Ayala) Colón.
Charlie retired from Denison University in 2013. He was a past Commissioner and Treasurer of the Norwalk, CT Housing Authority. He also worked as a police officer in Norwalk, CT and an electrician. He was active in city politics and enjoyed wood working and collecting miniature train sets.
He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Barbara; six children, Melody (Todd) Valencia of Tunnel Hill, GA, Patricia (Gregory) Sedia of RSM, CA, Mary (Bruce Bomely) Colón of Newtown, CT, Elizabeth (Lester) Wilson of Wurtsboro, NY, Charles (Cheryl) Colón Jr. of Rehoboth, MA, and David Colón of Carlsbad, CA; step son, Gregory (Kris) Stalling of Heath, OH; 16 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Magdalena Colón and Nuveldy Colón both of Indiana; and one brother, Angelo Colón of Las Vegas, NV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Faye Carol Iannacone Colón; and brother, Uriel Colón.

Visitation will be on Monday, October 15th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11:30 AM in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Avenue, Norwalk. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, 223 Richards Avenue, Norwalk.
