Richard Resch (Rick) of Norwalk, passed away suddenly at home on March 5th. He was 68 years old. Born in the Bronx, NY on September 26, 1949, he was the son of the late Joseph Resch Sr. and Margaret (Dalton) Resch. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1970 to 1972, part of that time on the Czech – Western German border where he was was a Tank Crewman and that love and respect for big equipment stayed with him his whole life. He later worked for 28 years for Consolidated Freightways as a Trailer Driver/Salesman on Long Island, NY and during that time he won many awards for safe driving. After he moved to Norwalk with his family, he worked for Deluxe Paving and Seaman Construction. He was working for Stew Leonard’s at the time of his passing.
Rick was one of those rare people who was respected and well liked wherever he went. People found him friendly and approachable and his gift was the ability to connect with others. He had a genuine capacity to listen and empathize. Rick could not go anywhere in Norwalk without his seeing and greeting someone he knew. He was a genuine nature lover, and took great delight and interest in observing the great diversity of the natural universe. One of his obvious pleasures was listening to National Public Radio, especially its discussions on science, medicine and nature. It was truly wonderful to hear him talk at the dinner table about something he heard during his daily travels. He loved the ocean, boating, scuba diving and amateur photography and his love of knowledge was limitless.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife Pat, married for 43 years and his much loved son Stefan and his fiancé Jacqueline Benitez, his step-mother Nancy Resch, his brother Joseph Jr. and wife Audrey, brother Robert (Chico) and wife Jean, Maureen Resch, and sisters Margaret (Marge) and Cathy Resch, his in-laws Joanne Laudicina and husband Roddy, Jeanette Genova, Steve Genova and wife Janet and Teri Genova Montalvo and the many nieces and nephews who really loved him.
A service will be held on Saturday, March 17th at 2:00 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT.
