Joseph Robert “Bob” Pekar, 81, husband of the late Elizabeth L. Pekar, passed peacefully on Friday, December 1, 2017 at Apple Rehab in West Haven with family by his side. Born on July 24, 1936 in Bridgeport, CT to Joseph Pekar and Helen Istvan. He was a devout Catholic, served as an altar boy at St. Emery’s Church, attended St. Stephen’s School and Roger Ludlowe High School in Fairfield, CT. Bob married the love of his life, Elizabeth Louise Zwart, in Stamford, and raised their five daughters in Norwalk. He retired from SNET. He is predeceased by his sister, Sandra Pekar Schweighoffer.
Bob is survived by his five beloved daughters; Lisa Patel of Danbury, Linda Smith of Cheshire, Lizzie Scott of Norwalk, Debbie Saballos of Hamden, and Cathy Grammatico of West Haven. He was a doting grandfather of ten, uncle to many nieces and nephews, and had acquired a vast amount of very dear friends. Bob had an outgoing personality that would combine with his desire to brighten everyone’s day and leave an impression on all that he met. He especially enjoyed driving people around and running errands for loved ones. He was a very spiritual and loving father who will be truly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family on Wednesday, December 6, 2017. The calling hours will be 9:00am – 10:30am at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, East Norwalk, CT. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am – 12:00pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Avenue, East Norwalk, CT. Interment will be at St. John Cemetery following the Mass.
