Ethel F. Canty, age 94, of Norwalk passed away on January 6, 2017 at Notre Dame Convalescent Home.  Miss Canty was born at home on Bell Island to Thomas H. and Ethel Smith Canty.  She graduated from Norwalk High School and worked as an assistant to dentist, Harry Hefferan, and later as vice president of  South Norwalk Savings Bank.

Ethel loved to play golf, bet on the Kentucky Derby in memory of her great-uncle the famous “plunger” Pittsburg Phil, and in later years to tell stories of the days when Babe Ruth visited her family home on West Rocks Road.

In addition to her parents, Ethel was predeceased by her sister Helen Canty Coates and her husband Arlington, brother Thomas H. Canty, and beloved niece Ethel Coates Robbins.  She is survived by her brother William H. Canty and his wife Helen of Danbury, several nieces and a nephew.

The family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to the caregivers at Notre Dame Convalescent Home, and request that in lieu of flowers, a contribution be made in Ethel’s memory to their Capital Improvement Fund (NDCH – SSTV Capital Improvement Fund).  Services will be private.
