Carole F. Cohen, 89, wife of the late Leonard S Cohen passed away Sunday, Jan 1, 2017 at the Delray Medical Center in Delray Beach, FL. Carole and Leonard were residents of Norwalk for nearly 60 years where they met each other and raised their family.
Born August 29, 1927 in Bridgeport, CT, she was the daughter of the late David and Sadye Fischer. She grew up in White Plains NY where she graduated from White Plains High School.
Carole attended Buffalo State Teachers College and went on to receive her Bachelors degree from New Paltz State Teacher’s College. She and her husband settled in Norwalk and she went on to teach kindergarten for 37 years in the Norwalk Public Schools, during which time she also earned a Masters in Education from the University of Bridgeport in Bridgeport, CT. After her retirement, she moved, retiring to Delray Beach, and Deerfield Beach , FL with her husband.
Carole is survived by daughters, Barbara L. Zucker and her husband Mark S. Zucker of Delray Beach, FL, and Lori Brenckman and her husband, Richard D. Brenckman of Solana Beach, CA; grandson Jonathan J. Zucker, residing in Hong Kong, and granddaughter Jessica L. Zucker-Twohig and her husband, Brad Twohig of Brooklyn, NY.
She is also survived by in-laws Rhoda and Morton Klibanoff of Boynton Beach, FL, Shirley Fischer of Short Hills, NJ, Gladys Cohen of Jamesburg, NJ, Phyllis Rich and Myrna and George Olszewski of Valhala, NY, Karen Hillman of Trumbull, CT, Faye and Paul Jeser of Los Angeles , CA; and 16 nieces and nephews and 35 grand and great grandnieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Leonard (Lenny) Cohen, she was predeceased by her brothers, Larry and Stanley Fischer, brothers-in-law Alfred Cohen, Herbert Rich, Morton Topper and Oscar Sondak, and her grandson, Matthew Zucker.
Graveside service and burial took place on Wed, Jan 4 at 11:30am at the Independent Hebrew Cemetery/Temple Shalom Cemetery at 135 Richards Avenue in Norwalk.
